Krochet Kritters with Kathy<\/p>\n

Join us on Tuesday afternoons to crochet an amigurumi.\u00a0 \u201cAmigurumi\u201d means a crocheted or knitted stuffed toy in Japanese.\u00a0 We\u2019ll work on a new critter each month.\u00a0 All supplies (yarn, crochet hooks, and stitch markers) will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.<\/p>\n

This drop-in program is for ages 13 and up, and no registration is required.\u00a0 Attendees should have basic crochet skills.\u00a0 No instructor will be present.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Country Club Summer<\/p>\n

Join us for the book launch of Pelham author Rachel Cullen\u2019s latest novel, \u201cCountry Club Summer.\u201d She\u2019ll be joined in conversation with fellow Pelham author Erica Youngren.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rachel Cullen is the author of eight women\u2019s fiction novels. Before she was a writer, Rachel was a brand strategy consultant and worked in San Francisco, New York, Brussels, and London. She has an undergraduate degree in religious studies from Northwestern University and an MBA from NYU Stern. She\u2019s lived in Pelham for nineteen years, where she lives with her husband, three teenage children, and three Labrador retrievers. If she isn\u2019t writing, you can find her playing a racquet sport or coaching, watching, or organizing Pelham lacrosse.<\/p>\n

Erica Youngren earned an MFA in creative nonfiction from Sarah Lawrence College. She was an assistant editor at Clarkson Potter\/Publishers, a staff writer for Harper\u2019s Bazaar, and she has contributed essays and reporting to a range of publications, including Cognoscenti, Real Simple, The New Yorker, Slate and Instyle.<\/p>\n

Uncovering Westchester LGBTQ+ History<\/p>\n

LGBTQ+ history is Westchester\u2019s history! In honor of Pride Month, join librarian and researcher Allee Manning for a celebration and deep dive into some of the true stories of the LGBTQ+ individuals who shaped Westchester with their advocacy, art, and activism. Expect plenty of fun trivia and thoughtful research.<\/p>\n

George Washington Carver: Beyond \u201cThe Peanut Man\u201d\"\"<\/p>\n

Renowned agricultural scientist, educator, and humanitarian, George Washington Carver was far more than just \u201cthe Peanut Man!\u201d Born in Missouri to enslaved parents just two weeks before the Civil War ended, Carver was one of the most prominent Black scientists of the 20th century. He developed farming techniques to prevent soil depletion, encouraged poor farmers to grow peanuts and sweet potatoes to improve their quality of life, and was an early promoter of environmentalism.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Awareness Inspires Conservation with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy<\/p>\n

Learn about the ongoing white shark research projects being conducted and funded by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, how that research is impacting conservation and public safety efforts, and up-to-date information on what that research has taught us. View videos and photographs to develop your knowledge of what a shark is and what it takes to conduct white shark research.<\/p>\n

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC) is a nonprofit organization supporting scientific research, educating the community, and improving public safety. AWSC strives to increase knowledge of Atlantic white sharks to change public perception, conserve the species, and ensure biologically diverse marine ecosystems.<\/p>\n

This class is intended for low-intermediate to advanced students who are learning English as a second or foreign language. (No beginners please!)<\/p>\n

EJ Sepp has taught ESL for 20 years and is the co-author of English Express New York: A Cultural Reading & Writing Text for English Language Learners.<\/p>\n

Join Master Yao-Wah Chan for beginning Tai Chi. He has over 40 years of experience teaching throughout New York City and Westchester and is trained in multiple Chinese disciplines.<\/p>\n

Tai Chi is a series of slow, gentle, and meditative body movements that can help you reduce pain, increase flexibility, improve balance, and cope with stress.<\/p>\n

The Library will provide Mah Jongg sets, but please bring your own Mah Jongg card. The Pelham Recreation Department is offering beginner Mah Jongg classes. Fiber Fridays, and Stitching Saturdays<\/p>\n

Love to knit or crochet? We have something for everyone. Join us every Friday afternoon for an informal needlework group for adults and teens. Knitters, crocheters, and needlepoint enthusiasts of all abilities are welcome, but please bring your own materials and note that no instructors will be present. We also meet on the first Saturday of each month for Stitching Saturdays, where we work on our crochet community banner celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the Battle of Pell. During this workshop, we\u2019ll learn how to do an image transfer using a pencil or carbon paper and paint our own portraits of Black icons like Jimi Hendrix, Maya Angelou, MLK, and more. We\u2019ll have acrylic paint, watercolors, and markers to bring your icon to life on canvas or watercolor paper.<\/p>\n

STEM Story Time by Pelham High School Student<\/p>\n

Outdoor Story Time<\/p>\n

Join us for our popular Story Time for infants and toddlers outside on our front lawn. Story Time is designed to enhance early literacy skills and features diverse children\u2019s books in which all children can see themselves represented\u2026 plus we have a lot of fun! Please bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. Story Time will be held outdoors throughout the year, but will be cancelled on days when the temperature is extreme, weather is extreme, or if it is raining. You may call the Library when we open at 10 am to inquire.<\/p>\n
