Fort Lee police spotted the stolen Porsche on Interstate 95 near the George Washington Bridge around 4:30 p.m. and attempted a traffic stop, according to a Bergen County Sheriff’s Office crime scene report.<\/p>\n
The driver failed to stop, prompting a pursuit through the borough, authorities said.<\/p>\n
While traveling south on Lemoine Avenue, the Porsche ran a red light at Tom Hunter Road and struck a Toyota Sienna traveling through the intersection, according to investigators. The Porsche then crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a Mazda CX-3 head-on before colliding with a Volvo and coming to a stop.<\/p>\n
The 17-year-old driver and a 15-year-old Newark passenger fled on foot after the crash, authorities said. The passenger was taken into custody near the vehicle.<\/p>\n
The driver ran behind The Colony apartment complex at 1530 Palisade Ave., scaled a fence, and jumped from a cliff overlooking the Palisades, according to investigators.<\/p>\n
Dispatch records show responders were advised that a person had jumped approximately 20 feet and was possibly injured. Rescue crews reported the individual was semi-conscious before being lifted from the cliffside in a rescue basket and transported to Hackensack University Medical Center.<\/p>\n
The East Bergen Rappel Team and emergency responders cut through fencing and descended the hillside to reach the injured teen, according to dispatch records.<\/p>\n
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit responded to investigate the crash.<\/p>\n
The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
