What we know about her doubles partner so far

Serena Williams is making a surprise return to professional tennis and now we’re waiting to find out who she’ll share the court with.

Breaking: 23-time major title winner Serena Williams is officially making her comeback to professional tennis. Williams will play doubles next week at the HSBC Championships, the tournament announced. pic.twitter.com/Ou9GT29lLX

— ESPN (@espn) June 1, 2026

After announcing she will come out of retirement to compete in doubles at this year’s Queen’s Club Championships, Serena Williams has sparked widespread curiosity about her partner. As of now, however, that detail remains a mystery.

Who will partner with Serena Williams at Queen’s?

At the time of her announcement, Williams did not reveal who she will team up with in London. Tournament organizers have also yet to confirm a doubles pairing, leaving us to speculate about who could join the 23-time Grand Slam champion for her return.

One natural possibility is a reunion with her sister, Venus Williams. The Williams sisters have formed one of the most dominant doubles partnerships in tennis history, winning 14 Grand Slam titles together and capturing multiple Olympic gold medals.

A reunion at Queen’s would instantly become one of the most compelling storylines of the tournament, though Venus has not been officially linked to the event.

Beyond a potential family pairing with Venus Williams (the dream scenario fans will immediately speculate about), Serena could also team up with an established doubles specialist like Taylor Townsend or Jessica Pegula. High-profile singles players such as Coco Gauff or Emma Raducanu would bring major star power, while British No. 1 Katie Boulter could offer a home-favorite option for Queen’s.

There’s also precedent for blockbuster doubles pairings in exhibition-style or early-season tournaments, especially when a major name returns to the spotlight.

Doubles is a format built heavily on chemistry, communication, and complementary styles. Williams has not competed professionally in years, so the choice of partner could significantly influence how competitive the pairing is right away. An experienced doubles player could help steady the partnership, while a familiar face might offer the comfort and rhythm needed for a successful comeback.

When will we know?

With the Queen’s Club Championships beginning on June 8, final doubles pairings and wildcard confirmations are expected to be released in the final days leading into the tournament, likely between June 5 and June 7, once the WTA entry list is officially locked and main-draw wildcards are announced.

Related stories

Get closer to the game!
