Serena Williams<\/a> is returning to tennis.<\/p>\n

The 44-year-old tennis icon announced her return on Monday (June 1).<\/p>\n

\u201cTHE QUEEN RETURNS Serena Williams is BACK & set for doubles at the #HSBCChampionships<\/a>!\u201d the HSBC Championships account wrote on social media.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Queen\u2019s Club Championships are starting on Saturday (June 6) at West Kensington in London, England. She is set to appear in the doubles tournament.<\/p>\n

In a video posted to social media, Serena teases her return by getting a bunch of calls and texts, saying \u201cI gotta change my number.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cGuess everybody heard the news,\u201d the screen reads. <\/p>\n

\u201cGood news travels fast,\u201d she captioned the post.<\/p>\n

Serena never formally announced her retirement, although it\u2019s been three years since her last match, losing in the US Open to Australia\u2019s Ajla Tomljanovi?. <\/p>\n

She was ranked as the world No. 1 in women\u2019s singles by the WTA for 319 weeks, the third-most of all time, and finished as the year-end No. 1 five times.<\/p>\n
