Serena Williams<\/a> will make her competitive return to tennis<\/a> after almost four years in the women’s doubles event at Queen’s Club in London, England, later this month.<\/p>\n The 44-year-old, who has 23 major singles titles to her name, last played competitively in September 2022, in a third-round singles match at the U.S. Open.\u00a0<\/p>\n “Queen\u2019s Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter,” Williams said in a statement released by the organisers<\/a> of the WTA 500 tournament on Monday (1 June).<\/p>\n “Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I\u2019m excited to be back competing on one of the sport\u2019s most iconic stages.\u201d<\/p>\n Indeed, Williams won seven singles and six doubles Grand Slam titles – with her sister\u00a0Venus Williams<\/a> – at Wimbledon, the grass-court major.\u00a0<\/p>\n The only player to complete a \u2018career Golden Slam\u2019 in both singles and doubles, Williams had hinted at a comeback<\/a>, and Monday’s announcement confirmed the news of her much-anticipated return.<\/p>\n Her participation at the 8-14 June Queens Club tournament, the prestigious grass-court warm-up for Wimbledon, also leaves the door open for her involvement in the major should she be handed a wildcard.<\/p>\n
