One of the most recognizable voices in the city is speaking up during this year\u2019s Pride Month.<\/p>\n
Bernie Wagenblast is known as one of the automated announcement voices for the city\u2019s subway system. In 2023, she shared a new announcement \u2014 coming out as a transgender woman at the age of 65. Today, she still has a love of public transit and being a voice for the community.<\/p>\n
She\u2019ll be a grand marshal in the New York City Pride March. Wagenblast joined \u201cThe Rush Hour\u201d to discuss this year\u2019s pride and being a role model for the LGBTQ community.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me, it was so freeing to live this life now,\u201d she said. \u201cFor most of my career, I was seen as a straight, cis, white guy. With that came a lot of privilege. I want to use that privilege in my working life to advocate from a position of a little more visibility.\u201d<\/p>\n
