Mom\u2019s not the word.<\/p>\n

New York state Democrats passed a bill to erase words like \u201cmother\u201d and \u201cfather\u201d from Family Court Law \u2014 in the latest gender-neutral rewriting<\/a> in the state\u2019s official records.<\/p>\n

\u201cMother\u201d would be replaced with \u201cgestating parent\u201d while \u201cfather\u201d becomes \u201cnon-gestating parent\u201d and \u201cpaternity\u201d proceedings would become \u201cparentage\u201d proceedings under the woke bill <\/a>that was rammed through both houses of the state legislature this week.<\/p>\n

A \u201cputative father\u201d in paternity proceedings would now be defined as \u201can alleged parent\u201d under the bill, which was sponsored by liberals Sen. Luis Sepulveda (D-Bronx) and Assemblywoman Amy Paulin (D-Westchester) and goes to Gov. Kathy Hochul\u2019s desk for approval.<\/p>\n

Some members of the Democrat-dominated legislature rolled their eyes as they signed off on the clunky new phrasing, as the legislative session comes to a close for the fiscal year. <\/p>\n

\u201cI have a word we can use for this, \u2018unnecessary,’\u201d one Democratic lawmaker told The Post.<\/p>\n

Democrat infighting had delayed approval of the massive $268 billion state budget by nearly two months before it was passed last week.<\/p>\n

Hochul, who proudly wears the moniker of New York\u2019s \u201cfirst mom governor,\u201d dodged on saying whether she supported the gender-neutral rewrite.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I\u2019m not familiar with what was introduced,\u201d Hochul said at an unrelated event in Brooklyn Wednesday. \u201cI\u2019ll take a look at it. This has been my practice for five years.\u201d<\/p>\n

A memo accompanying the bill claims the change is necessary because it brings state law into line with generally accepted standards for how family courts handle situations such as surrogacy cases.<\/p>\n
