Mayor Zohran Mamdani has jokes.<\/p>\n

The New York City mayor went viral on Wednesday, June 3, for his invite <\/a>to San Antonio Spurs<\/a>\u2019 Victor Wembanyama<\/a> amid the NBA Finals.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m pleased to invite @Wemby to our second Commission on Government Efficiency hearing on Wednesday June 10th 5-8pm, where we\u2019ll be asking the public for their thoughts on how government can run better. Would love to have you there for the whole time!\u201d Mayor Mamdani wrote on X.<\/p>\n

While it will be impossible for Wemby to attend the invitation by Mayor Mamdani since he will be facing the New York Knicks<\/a> in the NBA Finals, several fans did not catch on to his joke.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho cares what he thinks<\/a>? He doesn\u2019t even live in New York<\/a>,\u201d one fan asked.<\/p>\n

However, several fans caught on that Wemby will be at Game 4 of the NBA Finals during that time and will have to decline Mamdani\u2019s invitation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe number of people who don\u2019t get the joke that Wemby is playing a game during this time is hilarious<\/a>,\u201d one fan wrote.<\/p>\n

Now that the Knicks and Spurs are at the center of attention, when asked what he thinks of the spotlight<\/a>, Wemby did not seem phased.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t motivate me,\u201d Wembanyama said Tuesday (June 2) to reporters. \u201cAt the end of the day, only 20,000 people fit in the arena. So it doesn\u2019t really remake a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, he is ready to refocus and look forward to the big game.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe emotion was really something I haven\u2019t felt in a while, I won\u2019t even know since when,\u201d Wembanyama said amid his emotional response following the Western Conference Finals. \u201cAnd coming back down from this is a challenge. And it\u2019s not done yet.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe still need to really come back down to Earth and realize that we haven\u2019t done the hardest yet. The job isn\u2019t done at all. So we\u2019ve still got about \u2014 I don\u2019t know, what time is it? \u2014 30-plus hours to re-center.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Spurs will take on the Knicks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals at home at the Frost Bank Center tonight (June 3) at 8:30 pm ET.<\/p>\n
