The suspect was arrested and charged with hate crime assault as well as the hate crime of criminal obstruction of breathing, and aggravated harassment, the NYPD told The Times of Israel. In the video, the suspect appears to be wearing a military-style camouflage coat with a patch depicting the German tricolor flag.<\/p>\n
Police said the incident occurred on an E Train at Canal Street in downtown Manhattan shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday, and that the victim was treated for \u201cminor injuries\u201d at the scene.<\/p>\n
\u201cOfficers were informed by a 23-year-old female victim that an unknown individual approached her and made antisemitic remarks,\u201d the NYPD said in a statement. \u201cThe individual then repeatedly struck the victim about the body and pushed her to the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Around 2:15 PM, a woman told her she could \u201csmell the babies\u201d she had eaten and yelled that \u201cJews eat babies\u201d before choking her, throwing her to the ground, and beating her. pic.twitter.com\/4yMygy3EEb<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Combat Antisemitism Movement (@CombatASemitism) June 3, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n The canard that Jews use the blood or bodies of non-Jewish children for ritual purposes, an age-old antisemitic conspiracy theory known as the blood libel, has inspired repeated attacks on Jews worldwide for centuries.\n<\/p>\n Before the reported assault, the suspect talked to other passengers \u201cabout the dangers of Jews stealing wealth\u201d and said, \u201cYou could always see the reflection of a Jew,\u201d the Jewish woman told the Post.<\/p>\n The woman, who is Orthodox, said that the suspect then turned to her and smiled \u201ca very eerie smile.\u201d The woman then recalled saying, \u201cSo you see my reflection?\u201d and said the suspect responded, \u201cYeah, and I smell it on you too.\u201d<\/p>\n She added that she felt unprotected once the suspect began screaming at her and attacking her.<\/p>\n \u201cI was a ragdoll and I couldn\u2019t defend myself \u2014 there should have been a human barricade around me,\u201d she told the Post.\u00a0\u201cNo one stepped up until it was too late.\u201d<\/p>\n She got out at the next subway stop, and another rider pressed an emergency button that alerted the cops to arrest the attacker, the Post reported.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I had to identify her, a ton of people were like, \u2018Oh, we saw what happened, are you okay?\u2019 And that was extremely triggering for me, because of course I\u2019m not okay. I kept just thinking, \u2018I\u2019m not in Nazi Germany,\u2019\u201d she told the Post.<\/p>\n \t Sunday was also the day of New York\u2019s annual Israel parade, called Israel Day on Fifth. The parade, one of the flagship annual events of New York City\u2019s Jewish community, was attended by leading New York and Israeli officials, though not by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, in a break from longstanding precedent. No attacks took place at the parade itself, which was under heavy security, according to police.<\/p>\n Jews make up about 10 percent of the city\u2019s population and are targeted in hate crimes in the city more than all other groups combined every month, according to NYPD data.<\/p>\n Luke Tress contributed to this report.\u00a0<\/p>\n
