{"id":256229,"date":"2026-06-05T10:42:32","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T10:42:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/256229\/"},"modified":"2026-06-05T10:42:32","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T10:42:32","slug":"top-gun-maverick-actor-james-handy-killed-in-alleged-attack-by-girlfriends-son","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/256229\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Top Gun: Maverick\u2019 actor James Handy killed in alleged attack by girlfriend\u2019s son"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>James Handy, an actor with appearances in \u201cJumanji,\u201d \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/05\/28\/tom-cruises-top-gun-maverick-wins-domestic-box-office\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Top Gun: Maverick<\/a>\u201d and \u201cTaps,\u201d was brutally murdered by his girlfriend\u2019s son, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities raced to the 19200 block of Erwin Street <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/14\/us-news\/man-arrested-after-trying-to-climb-fence-at-chris-browns-la-home\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in Tarzana<\/a> Wednesday morning after a caller stated, \u201cI am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When they arrived, cops discovered 81-year-old Handy unconscious in the front yard of a home, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/01\/us-news\/illegal-migrant-joaquin-escoto-accused-of-murdering-infant-and-two-women-in-modesto-grins-in-court\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">suffering from stab wounds<\/a>, police said. Handy was stabbed multiple times in the chest.<\/p>\n<p>James Handy, an actor with appearances in \u201cJumanji,\u201d \u201cTop Gun: Maverick,\u201d and \u201cTaps,\u201d was brutally murdered by his girlfriend\u2019s son, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Police investigate the stabbing on the 19200 block of Erwin Street in Tarzana, Calif., on June 3, 2026. ABC7<\/p>\n<p>Handy was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<p>A short time later, the suspect, 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, allegedly waved down officers and told them he was the one they were looking for, according to a news release from <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/08\/opinion\/la-city-council-sides-with-criminals-over-cops\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LAPD<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gledhill is the son of Handy\u2019s girlfriend and was living with his mother at the time of the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Gledhill was arrested for murder and his bail is currently set at $2 million.<\/p>\n<p>Handy\u2019s career started back in the 1970\u2019s, and his most recent role was in \u201cTop Gun: Maverick,\u201d where he played a bartender named Jimmy.<\/p>\n<p>He also played an exterminator in \u201cJumanji,\u201d the 1995 cult classic with Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt, Kirsten Dunst and Jonathan Hyde.<\/p>\n<p>James Handy in a scene alongside Tom Cruise in \u201cTop Gun: Maverick.\u201d Paramount<\/p>\n<p>Aerial view of a crime scene outside a home where a black SUV sits with red tape, and white evidence markers.
