A federal judge in Rhode Island ordered the Trump administration to restart its processing of asylum claims<\/a>. The judge also ordered an end to the indefinite hold on applications for green cards and other immigration benefits for people from the 39 countries subject to President Trump\u2019s travel ban.<\/p>\n

The judge, John McConnell, an Obama appointee, wrote that the policies had violated the law and left immigrants living in the U.S. in \u201cindeterminate legal limbo\u201d because of \u201canti-immigrant sentiments.\u201d He said that the burden had fallen hardest on immigrants who had followed all the procedures.<\/p>\n

The policies McConnell struck down have been in place since November, shortly after the authorities said an Afghan national shot two National Guard members in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n

Job growth is looking healthier<\/p>\n

American employers hired vigorously in May,<\/a> adding 172,000 jobs, according to new data from the federal government. That puts average job growth in 2026 at about 114,000 positions per month, indicating that businesses have shaken off some of the strains from last year, when employers added about 10,000 jobs per month.<\/p>\n

The robust results stand in contrast to consumers\u2019 extremely downbeat mood. In polls, voters have soured on Trump\u2019s handling of the economy, perhaps because wages have failed to keep pace with surging prices for gas and food.<\/p>\n

In the markets: The S&P 500 fell more than 2.6 percent today, ending a long run of weekly gains<\/a>.<\/p>\n

SpaceX could soon be in your 401(k)<\/p>\n

Some major stock indexes, like the Nasdaq-100, recently changed their rules<\/a> to shorten the time before they are allowed to hold shares of especially large companies that go public. The changes mean that index funds \u2014 which millions of Americans own through retirement accounts and personal portfolios \u2014 are poised to hold shares of SpaceX, Anthropic and OpenAI later this year.<\/p>\n

As a result, you could inadvertently reap the rewards, or suffer the consequences, of owning shares in these companies during their typically volatile first months on the market. The S&P 500, one of the most popular indexes, did not change its rules.<\/p>\n

Amid upheaval, stars of \u201860 Minutes\u2019 say they will stay<\/p>\n

The three remaining \u201c60 Minutes\u201d correspondents told the show\u2019s staff today that they would remain in their roles in order to \u201crepair and preserve\u201d the reputation<\/a> of the country\u2019s top-rated news program. The trio, Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker and Jon Wertheim, also expressed deep frustration with the decision by Bari Weiss, the CBS News editor in chief, to fire the show\u2019s executive producer and other correspondents.<\/p>\n

In their letter, which you can read here<\/a>, they warned that if the program lost its editorial independence, \u201cwe leave.\u201d<\/p>\n

THE N.B.A. FINALS<\/p>\n

Ahead of tonight\u2019s Game 2 matchup between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs, my colleague Jessica Testa sent along another postcard from New York, where bars are getting ready to tune their TVs to ABC.<\/p>\n
