On dozens of occasions between 2023 and 2026, VILA was the leader of a drug-trafficking conspiracy whereby he drove from the Bronx to other locations to sell fentanyl to his customers.\u00a0 VILA\u2019s drugs caused at least three overdose deaths: (i) the death of a 57-year-old man (\u201cVictim-1\u201d) on or about April 16, 2025, in Stamford, Connecticut; (ii) the death of a 32-year-old woman (\u201cVictim-2\u201d) on or about April 25, 2025, in Port Chester, New York; and (iii) the death of a 69-year-old man (\u201cVictim-3\u201d) on or about January 21, 2026, in Port Chester, New York.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In the month leading up to Victim-1\u2019s death, VILA drove to sell narcotics to Victim-1 on at least 10 occasions.\u00a0 Several days after the last meeting, VILA sent Victim-1 several text messages asking if Victim-1 was \u201cgood\u201d or \u201cok.\u201d\u00a0 Despite Victim-1 not responding, because Victim-1 had overdosed and died, VILA continued selling deadly fentanyl, ultimately resulting in two additional fatal drug overdoses.<\/p>\n
Approximately one day after his last unanswered text message to Victim-1, VILA delivered narcotics to Victim-3, who shared them with Victim-2.\u00a0 Approximately a week later, Victim-2 died of an overdose from the drugs that VILA distributed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Following Victim-2\u2019s death, VILA continued to make deliveries of narcotics to Victim-3, including on or about January 9, 2026.\u00a0 On January 21, 2026, Victim-3 died of an overdose from the drugs that VILA distributed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On June 4, 2026, members of law enforcement searched Vila\u2019s house in the Bronx pursuant to a judicially authorized search warrant.\u00a0 Among other things, the search revealed suspected narcotic powders; narcotics mixing and stamping equipment; numerous glassine envelopes for individual packaging; and a safe containing a gun, cash, and a ski mask.\u00a0 Photographs of some of the items recovered during the search warrant are shown below.<\/p>\n

VILA, 50, of the Bronx, New York, is charged with conspiracy to distribute narcotics resulting in death and three counts of distribution of narcotics resulting in death, all of which carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life in prison.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The minimum and maximum potential sentences in this case are prescribed by Congress and provided here for informational purposes only, as any sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the judge.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr. Clayton praised the outstanding investigative work of the DEA and the NYPD. \u00a0Mr. Clayton also thanked the Port Chester Police Department, the Stamford Police Department, and the New York State Police for their invaluable assistance in this case.<\/p>\n
This case is being handled by the Office\u2019s Narcotics Unit. \u00a0Assistant U.S. Attorney Getzel Berger is in charge of the prosecution.<\/p>\n
