WINDSOR, Pa. (WFMZ) \u2014 Investigators have identified human remains found in a Berks County field more than 30 years ago as a woman who went missing from the Bronx, New York.<\/p>\n
Genetic genealogy identified Nuria Rodriguez as the \u201cChristman Jane Doe\u201d whose remains were discovered in a field on Christman Road in Windsor Township in June 1992.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new testing with the DNA is the only reason we found out who she was,\u201d said Matthew Stitzel, Berks County coroner.<\/p>\n
Discovery and identification<\/p>\n
A farmer found a skull in the field and notified authorities, according to John Adams, Berks County district attorney.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe remains in Windsor Township were somewhat buried, a skull was found by a farmer then authorities were notified… they dug up a bit of a grave … the body was recovered,\u201d Adams said.<\/p>\n
Authorities recently learned Rodriguez was 25 when she went missing from the Bronx. It is unclear how her body ended up in Berks County.<\/p>\n
The coroner said Parabon Labs connected DNA from the remains to a potential relative.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough DNA testing with them we were able to get DNA from him and send that to Parabon Labs as well where they were able to make a 100% confirmation match on her DNA,\u201d Stitzel said.<\/p>\n
Investigation continues<\/p>\n
Authorities are now trying to find her killer.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s nothing we can do currently to tell us her cause or manner of death because of the condition the remains were in when we found them… there just wasn\u2019t anything to test or visually look at for us,\u201d Stitzel said.<\/p>\n
Authorities said they are looking at a possible connection with the death of Anna Kane, whose body was discovered in 1988. That case was solved in 2022 when Scott Grim, from the Hamburg area who died in 2018, was named as the person responsible for her death.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very coincidental that both of these bodies are A. found in the same vicinity and B. they both have connections to prostitution,\u201d Adams said.<\/p>\n
Authorities said Kane\u2019s killer was found by connecting Grim\u2019s DNA from a letter he had sent to DNA found on Kane\u2019s clothing. They said they will do additional testing to see if they can extract DNA from clothing found near Rodriguez\u2019s remains.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are doing further DNA testing to maybe help us answer the ultimate question,\u201d Adams said.<\/p>\n
