Performances are underway\u00a0for\u00a0the Off-Broadway production of Are You Now or Have You Ever Been at New York City Center Stage I. Anna D. Shapiro<\/a> (August: Osage County) directs the new staging\u00a0of Eric Bentley<\/a>\u2019s 1972 play, which\u00a0continues through\u00a0September 11.<\/p>\n

Leading the company are\u00a0Brooks Ashmanskas<\/a> (Smash<\/a>, The Prom<\/a>), Jason Babinsky<\/a> (Network<\/a>), Tony nominee Steven Boyer<\/a> (Hand to God<\/a>), Adam Kantor<\/a> (The Band’s Visit<\/a>), Frederick Weller<\/a> (In Plain Sight), and Michael McKean<\/a> (This is Spinal Tap). Melvin Abston<\/a>, Noah Pyzik<\/a>, and Bill Timoney<\/a> serve as understudies.<\/p>\n

The docudrama explores the 1940s House Committee hearings on “Un-American
\nActivities,” where even fame offered those who were scapegoated no
\nprotection. Using only original
\n transcripts, the play features the words of Arthur Miller<\/a>,
\n Jerome Robbins<\/a>, Paul Robeson<\/a>, Elia Kazan<\/a>, Lillian Hellman<\/a>, Abe Burrows<\/a>,
\n and Lionel Stander<\/a> as they stood at the crossroads of defending their
\nintegrity, or protecting their careers and betraying their peers.<\/p>\n

A star-studded rotating cast has also been assembled for\u00a0the limited engagement.\u00a0Guest starring through\u00a0June 21 are David Krumholtz<\/a> (Leopoldstadt<\/a>), Billy Eugene Jones<\/a> (Purlie Victorious<\/a>), Andrew McCarthy<\/a> (Pretty in Pink), Sally Murphy<\/a> (August: Osage County), and Jay O. Sanders<\/a> (Purlie Victorious).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Joining Murphy and Jones as guest stars June 23\u2013July 12 will\u00a0be\u00a0Scott Adsit<\/a> (30 Rock), Ben Rappaport<\/a> (Good Night Oscar), and Thomas Sadoski<\/a> (The Newsroom). Upcoming guest stars will include\u00a0Norbert Leo Butz<\/a>, Santino Fontana<\/a>, T.R.
