<\/p>\nSix people were injured in a knife attack at New York City\u2019s Penn Station on Sunday, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The city\u2019s fire department said it received a call about someone stabbing multiple people at the major intercity railroad station in midtown just after 7 p.m.<\/p>\n
One person had serious injuries, and other injuries ranged from minor to moderate, the fire department said. Those people were taken to Bellevue Hospital, while a sixth person with a minor injury was taken to Cornell Hospital, it said.<\/p>\n
An Amtrak spokesperson said five people were slashed but that all patients were stable. A knife was recovered at the scene, the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
A person believed to have mental health issues was taken into custody by Amtrak police, a senior law enforcement official said, adding that there are no preliminary signs the attack was related to terrorism.<\/p>\n

Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he was briefed on the stabbing, and he praised Amtrak police for their \u201cswift response.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMy heart is with everyone who was injured, their loved ones, and all those shaken by this unacceptable violence. I\u2019m wishing each of the victims a full and speedy recovery,\u201d he said on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n He noted there were no impacts to Amtrak service.<\/p>\n New York Gov. Kathy Hochul condemned the attack, calling it \u201can act of horrific violence.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOur hearts are with the victims and their loved ones, and we are praying for their full recovery,\u201d she said on X<\/a>. \u201cNew Yorkers deserve to feel safe wherever they go, and we will never stop working to make that a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n
