{"id":259,"date":"2025-10-14T00:52:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T00:52:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/259\/"},"modified":"2025-10-14T00:52:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T00:52:11","slug":"woman-76-killed-by-solar-panel-that-blew-off-brooklyn-roof-during-nyc-noreaster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/259\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman, 76, killed by solar panel that blew off Brooklyn roof during NYC nor&#8217;easter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An elderly New Yorker was tragically killed when Monday\u2019s nor\u2019easter blew a solar panel from a roof and sent it careening into the streets below.<\/p>\n<p>A forceful wind gust ripped the massive solar panel \u2013 more than 7-by-3 feet across \u2014 from an outdoor parking lot structure on Ocean Parkway near Brighton Beach Avenue, according to the NYPD and the city\u2019s Department of Buildings.<\/p>\n<p>The panel was swept up by the wind and flew about 20 feet, then struck 76-year-old Lyudmila Braun, cops and buildings officials said.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.64365971;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37373206\" width=\"970\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/area-3100-113408956.jpg\" alt=\"Elevated train tracks over Ocean Parkway with a subway station entrance and street traffic.\" class=\"wp-image-37373206\"  \/>A forceful gust of wind caused a panel to detach from a rooftop carport at an outdoor parking lot on Ocean Parkway near Brighton Beach Avenue in West Brighton, according to the NYPD and the city\u2019s Department of Buildings. Google Maps<\/p>\n<p>Braun \u2014 who lived about five blocks away \u2014 was knocked to the ground, where she lay unconscious and unresponsive, cops said.<\/p>\n<p>She was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she was pronounced dead, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Her death is considered to be a freak accident, cops said.<\/p>\n<p>A wind advisory was in effect citywide over the storm sweeping up the coast Sunday into Monday, with the National Weather Service warning about 20 to 30 mph winds and gusts up to 45 mph that could \u201ccause flying debris\u201d and \u201cturn unsecured objects into projectiles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fatal accident prompted a partial vacate order for the parking lot underneath the solar panel structure, the department said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditional enforcement actions\u201d are pending the results of an ongoing DOB investigation, the officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the DOB worked with the MTA to close off one of the entrances to the nearby above-ground Ocean Parkway Q train station \u201cin the interest of public safety\u201d during the storm officials said.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.56814701;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37373213\" width=\"925\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/10-13-25-weather-pictures-113388091_444a25.jpg\" alt=\"Woman in a yellow raincoat walking on Coney Island boardwalk during a Nor'easter.\" class=\"wp-image-37373213\"  \/>A woman is seen braving the elements in New York City as the nor\u2019easter hit the region.
