NEW YORK \u2014 An FDNY fire truck racing to an emergency fatally struck<\/a> a woman crossing a Bronx street, police said Saturday.<\/p>\n

The firetruck from Engine 82 was responding to a call for help and had its emergency lights and sirens going<\/a> at about 11:15 p.m. Friday when it struck the woman at the corner of Intervale Ave. and Chisholm St. in Morrisania, cops said.<\/p>\n

The emergency call came from a fire alarm call box at a street corner several blocks away, officials said.<\/p>\n

The firetruck was heading north on Intervale Ave. when it hit the woman, cops said. The corner where the crash occurred has no crosswalk, officials said.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old firefighter driving the truck remained at the scene with the rig as EMS rushed the critically injured woman to St. Barnabas Hospital<\/a>, where she died.<\/p>\n

Cops were trying to identify the woman on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The emergency the firetruck was responding to was reassigned to another fire company, officials said.<\/p>\n

No charges were immediately filed as police continue to investigate.<\/p>\n
