ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. \u2014\u00a0Samsung Electronics America plans to relocate its U.S. headquarters from Englewood Cliffs to Plano, Texas, less than a year after moving into a Bergen County campus that local officials had celebrated as a major corporate investment.<\/p>\n

The company is expected to complete the move by the end of the year, according to reports confirmed by New Jersey business publications. Samsung has not disclosed how many jobs will be relocated or remain in New Jersey, though multiple reports estimate that about 1,000 employees are based at the Englewood Cliffs headquarters.<\/p>\n

The announcement comes less than a year after Samsung completed its move from Ridgefield Park to 700 Sylvan Ave., the former Unilever campus in Englewood Cliffs. The company opened the facility in September 2025 after announcing plans for the relocation the previous year.<\/p>\n

Mayor Mark Park said the borough was disappointed by Samsung\u2019s decision but remains confident in its ability to attract major employers.<\/p>\n

\u201cSamsung\u2019s reported decision appears to be driven by considerations that extend beyond any single municipality,\u201d Park told NJBIZ. \u201cFrom the Borough\u2019s perspective, Englewood Cliffs continues to offer an exceptional environment for business, with a highly educated workforce, immediate access to New York City, premier corporate facilities, strong public safety services, and a responsive local government.\u201d<\/p>\n

Samsung has maintained a presence in New Jersey for roughly four decades. The company said the move will strengthen ties to its semiconductor operations in Texas, where it operates facilities in Austin and Taylor.<\/p>\n

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority said Samsung did not receive state incentives related to its move to Englewood Cliffs.<\/p>\n

The relocation has renewed discussion about New Jersey\u2019s competitiveness in attracting and retaining major employers. John Boyd Jr., founder of Princeton-based site-selection firm The Boyd Company, described the move as \u201ca five-alarm fire wake-up call\u201d and pointed to taxes, housing costs and overall business expenses as factors companies evaluate when selecting locations.<\/p>\n

Park emphasized that Englewood Cliffs has long been home to major corporate employers and said local officials have worked to support business investment through planning, infrastructure improvements and streamlined approvals.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we are disappointed to see Samsung relocate operations, we remain grateful for its presence in our community and wish the company continued success,\u201d Park said. \u201cWe are confident that the strengths that attracted Samsung to Englewood Cliffs remain as strong as ever today.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mayor also expressed confidence in the future of the property.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe corporate campus at 700 Sylvan Avenue remains one of the premier office locations in the region, and Englewood Cliffs continues to be well-positioned to attract future investment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
