{"id":261087,"date":"2026-06-09T21:37:59","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T21:37:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/261087\/"},"modified":"2026-06-09T21:37:59","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T21:37:59","slug":"nypd-sergeant-indicted-for-stealing-over-132000-in-overtime-pay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/261087\/","title":{"rendered":"NYPD sergeant indicted for stealing over $132,000 in overtime pay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/GettyImages-458624057-2-2.jpg\" class=\"crop-center wp-post-image\" alt=\"NYPD officer with shield\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"   title=\"NYPD sergeant indicted for stealing over $132,000 in overtime pay 1\"\/>\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>New York City, New York \u2013 May 19, 2011 : The crest on the jacket of a New York City Police Officer while on patrol.<\/p>\n<p>Photo via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>A Manhattan <a href=\"https:\/\/nyc.gov\/nypd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NYPD<\/a> sergeant was indicted on Tuesday for allegedly stealing more than $132,000 in pay for overtime she never worked, prosecutors said Tuesday.\n<\/p>\n<p>Former Sergeant Rayna Rampaul, also known as Rayna Madho, appeared in <a href=\"https:\/\/nycourts.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">New York Supreme Court<\/a> on June 8 before Judge Althea Drysdale, on an indictment with one count of second-degree grand larceny and four counts of first-degree falsifying business records.<\/p>\n<p>Rampaul, a 20-year veteran of the department who had worked in the NYPD Photo Unit, stands accused of grossly overestimating the number of hours she had spent on duty over several years.\n<\/p>\n<p>According to court documents, between Sept. 30, 2022, and Nov. 21, 2024, Rampaul claimed to have worked approximately 1,680 hours on standard and overtime tours she did not actually attend.\n<\/p>\n<p>Rampaul allegedly submitted payroll records and overtime slips for hours she never worked, resulting in $132,366.85 in unearned pay, prosecutors said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs alleged, Rayna Rampaul stole approximately $132,000 in pay from the NYPD while she worked as a sergeant, a leadership position,\u201d said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. \u201cCity employees who fraudulently drain the City\u2019s coffers will be held accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The crime is not bail eligible and Rampaul was released on her own recognizance following arraignment on Monday.
