Serena Williams has made a big comeback at the WTA Queen’s 2026 in the doubles draw alongside Victoria Mboko, achieving a great victory against Erin Routliffe and Nicole Melichar-Martinez with a score of 7-6(2) 6-2 in 1 hour and 30 minutes. Playing on a packed Andy Murray Court, the American tennis player has once again shown that time hasn’t affected her, as at 44 years old and after almost 4 years of inactivity, she displayed a quite high level.

It’s also worth highlighting Mboko’s excellent performance, as she did not have an easy task considering all the pressure that comes with being chosen by Serena Williams to return to the circuit. “My 10-year-old self wouldn’t believe it, I’d say that great things are ahead. Playing with her is an honor, and I’m very excited to live this experience. I’m privileged,” she said in an interview with the tournament just minutes before stepping on the court.

Moreover, the match had everything. Mboko and Serena even went a break up in the first set against the 3rd-seeded pair, but ultimately had to go to a tiebreak to secure the first set. Experience and courage prevailed for Williams and Victoria, not giving their opponents much of a chance and limiting them to just two points. Their celebration said it all. They didn’t come to play around.

Furthermore, the second set went smoothly for them, as they quickly earned a early break that gave them enough peace of mind to play with a cushion for the rest of the set. To top it off, they broke their opponents’ serve once again and closed the match with a 6-2 score with an incredible performance by both. If Serena is waiting to assess her condition to return to singles in the future, this is undoubtedly a great first step.
