\nPrincess Catharina-Amalia paid tribute to the queens who came
\nbefore her<\/a> at Tuesday evening\u2019s state banquet in honour of the
\nPresident and First Lady of Germany.<\/p>\n

At the
\nglittering banquet, Princess Amalia chose to wear the Dutch Star
\ntiara, made famous by her mother on her wedding day in 2002. The
\ndiamond star embellishments were a wedding present to Queen Emma on
\nher wedding day in 1879; and the base is from the Pearl Button
\ntiara.

Her diamond earrings originally belonged to Queen Juliana; and
\nher diamond bracelet belonged to Queen Wilhelmina. To complement
\nher jewels, Princess Amalia chose a pale blue gown by Rachel
\nGilbert that featured a corseted bodice and shoulder straps to
\nemphasise the narrow silhouette.<\/p>\n

Over the bodice of her gown, the newly-gifted Order of Merit of
\nthe Federal Republic of Germany was on display.<\/p>\n

Queen M\u00e1xima, meanwhile, wore dazzling diamond and sapphires
\nfrom Queen Emma\u2019s sapphire parure.<\/p>\n

The Queen Emma Sapphire Parure tiara dates back to 1881, when it
\nwas designed by Maison van der Stichel. It features more than 600
\ndiamonds and sapphires set in tall spire formations; and its
\ncentral sapphire can be removed and worn as a brooch or hair comb,
\nweighing in at 44 carats.<\/p>\n

Queen M\u00e1xima complemented the Sapphire Parure tiara with two of
\nits bracelets, set in diamonds and sapphires; and a bow brooch
\npinned to the waist of her Jan Taminiau gown. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife,
\nElke B\u00fcdenbender, are on a three-day State Visit to the Netherlands
\nto reaffirm the \u201cpolitical, economic and cultural-historical
\nlevels\u201d between the neighbouring countries.<\/p>\n

After their arrival in Amsterdam, and the welcoming ceremony
\nthere; King Willem-Alexander, Queen M\u00e1xima and the German couple
\nvisited the National Holocaust Museum to attend a discussion with
\nthe Jewish community.<\/p>\n
