John Gallagher<\/a> has announced the addition incoming sophomore forward Ognjen Stankovic on Wednesday\u00a0morning.<\/p>\n“Ogie is exactly the kind of player we seek at Manhattan.\u00a0 He is skilled, smart, and tough,” described Gallagher.<\/p>\n
The 6-8 forward began his career in the Rust Belt region at the University of Akron for the Zips, where he logged a total of 114 minutes to open his career.<\/p>\n
Stankovic played in 18 games for the 29-win Zips and logged a career high 16 minutes against Princeton in the second game of the 2025-26 campaign, where he grabbed seven rebounds, assisted on three baskets, recorded one block, and one steal in the effort against the Tigers.<\/p>\n
“He gives us a versatile, switchable defender who can guard multiple positions on one end and initiate offense on the other.”<\/p>\n
In international play, Stankovic played in the Basketball Champions League where he played in five games in the early months of 2025. In 2023, Stankovic posted 14.3 points-per-game in four games for the Youth Basketball Champions League, grabbed an average six rebounds, and assisted on 7.5 baskets, culminating with a championship.<\/p>\n
“He brings a seasoned European background and adds a maturity and winning pedigree you can’t manufacture.”<\/p>\n
During his national youth team years, Stankovic posted five games in the 2021 FIBA U16 European Challengers, that saw 13.8 points-per-game, 8.4 rebounds-per-game, 3.2 assists-per-game.<\/p>\n
The next year in 2022 for FIBA U17 Basketball’s World Cup, the Serbian product logged 11.7 points-per-game, 4.7 rebounds-per-game, and 5.4 assists-per-game. Finally in 2024 in the FIBA U20 EuroBasket, he averaged 6.1 points-per-game in seven games, while averaging nearly three boards and assists per game, each.<\/p>\n
Through three years playing for Igokea in the AdmiralBet ABA League, a top tier regional league in Europe, Stankovic played in 49 games, and averaged 12 minutes-per-game, and posted a clip of 51.8 from the floor, while grabbing 57 rebounds, 67 assists, 35 steals, five blocks, and 148 total points.<\/p>\n
“Ogie will contribute immediately for us in many ways, and I am excited to coach him!”<\/p>\n
Stankovic will pursue a bachelor’s degree in general studies in Riverdale.<\/p>\n
