NEW YORK (PIX11) \u2014 The dangerous heat arrives in New York City on Thursday, and it will also come with the chance of severe thunderstorms.<\/p>\n
A heat advisory will be in effect for most of the tri-state region between the midday hours of Thursday and Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service.\u00a0The heat index is expected to reach 100 degrees, which can result in heat-related illnesses.<\/p>\n
NYC forecast and PIX11\u2019s Weather Center <\/a><\/p>\n An air quality alert has also been issued for Thursday by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. High levels of ozone are expected, and strenuous outdoor activities should be limited.<\/p>\n The hot temperatures and high humidity will bring the threat of thunderstorms that could be severe, especially on Thursday and Friday.<\/p>\n A few scattered showers, along with a gusty thunderstorm, will be possible on Wednesday evening. After the shower threat diminishes, it will be a warm and humid night. Overnight lows will be in the lower 70s.<\/p>\n The heat and humidity will be in full force on Thursday and Friday. Temperatures for both days will end up in the mid 90s, and high levels of humidity will make it feel like around 100 degrees or so.<\/p>\n Severe thunderstorms may flare up for both days during the afternoon and evening.
