The city is already crowded with tourists during any regular summer. But many more visitors are expected to turn up by mid-July, especially as the final match will be hosted at MetLife Stadium (renamed to New York\/New Jersey Stadium) in New Jersey, just across the Hudson River from Manhattan, on Sunday, July 19 at 3 p.m. eastern.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"1\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Whether you are local or visiting, you do not need to spend thousands on a match ticket to soak up the atmosphere. New York has plenty of places to watch every game surrounded by fellow fans. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/news\/nyc-is-setting-up-free-world-cup-watch-parties-and-fan-zones-all-across-the-five-boroughs-042826\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/news\/nyc-is-setting-up-free-world-cup-watch-parties-and-fan-zones-all-across-the-five-boroughs-042826\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"state government is investing $20 million\" data-node-id=\"1.1\" class=\"body-link css-wwtvcb emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">state government is investing $20 million<\/a> in World Cup-related programming across the five boroughs. City and state officials have even put in place a series of measures designed to make watching matches\u2014whether at a bar, a park, or a plaza\u2014easier than usual.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"2\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">The most significant change for fans is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-unveils-plans-permit-world-cup-fan-events-local-bars-and-restaurants-statewide\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-unveils-plans-permit-world-cup-fan-events-local-bars-and-restaurants-statewide\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"World Cup One-Day Permit\" data-node-id=\"2.1\" class=\"body-link css-wwtvcb emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">World Cup One-Day Permit<\/a>, a new offering from the New York State Liquor Authority that allows bars, restaurants, and event organizers to host outdoor watch parties and expand alcohol service into adjacent spaces for the duration of the tournament, without the usual four-day cap on temporary outdoor service. Another <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/news\/412034\/world-cup-new-york-state-bars-restaurants-sell-alcohol-4am-ny-new-bill?utm_campaign=eater-dashhudson&amp;utm_content=NY-twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/news\/412034\/world-cup-new-york-state-bars-restaurants-sell-alcohol-4am-ny-new-bill?utm_campaign=eater-dashhudson&amp;utm_content=NY-twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"temporary bill\" data-node-id=\"2.3\" class=\"body-link css-wwtvcb emevuu60\">temporary bill<\/a> will also allow restaurants and bars in select New York counties to serve alcohol until 4 a.m. during the World Cup group stage, running from June 11 through the early morning of July 20.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"4\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">For fans who want to watch games for free, the city has set up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/mayors-office\/news\/2026\/04\/mayor-mamdani--governor-hochul-and-fifa-world-cup-2026-nynj-host\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/mayors-office\/news\/2026\/04\/mayor-mamdani--governor-hochul-and-fifa-world-cup-2026-nynj-host\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"a network of fan zones across all five boroughs\" data-node-id=\"4.1\" class=\"body-link css-wwtvcb emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a network of fan zones across all five boroughs<\/a>. However, not all of the locations are open the entire tournament, so plan ahead. But if you want to be in Manhattan, Rockefeller Center is hosting the <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rockefellercenter.com\/events\/world-cup-2026\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.rockefellercenter.com\/events\/world-cup-2026\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"NYNJ World Cup 26 and Telemundo Fan Village\" data-node-id=\"5.1\" class=\"body-link css-wwtvcb emevuu60\">NYNJ World Cup 26 and Telemundo Fan Village<\/a> from July 6 through July 19, with extended hours during finals week.
