These winds surge out ahead of a storm, often arriving before the rain and lightning. They can be powerful enough to knock down trees and power lines.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The second type is the most well-known \u2014 tornadoes. These are rotating columns of air that form in certain storms and can cause significant, concentrated damage along their path.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The third type is a microburst.
