YONKERS, Westchester County (WABC) — A Yonkers community is both shocked and grieving after a 12-year-old boy choked to death in school.<\/p>\n

The medical emergency happened just before 12 p.m. at Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School.<\/p>\n

The Yonkers Public Schools superintendent said the sixth grader started choking and became unresponsive.<\/p>\n

Efforts to resuscitate him were not successful and the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.<\/p>\n

As police investigate this tragic incident, the community is rallying around the boy’s classmates and teachers who are struggling immensely.<\/p>\n
