{"id":26368,"date":"2025-11-03T02:08:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T02:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/26368\/"},"modified":"2025-11-03T02:08:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T02:08:09","slug":"dexter-lawrence-makes-giants-hopes-clear-before-trade-deadline-looms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/26368\/","title":{"rendered":"Dexter Lawrence makes Giants hopes clear before trade deadline looms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dexter Lawrence isn\u2019t going to run from the Giants.<\/p>\n<p>Lawrence\u2019s tumultuous week began with his lack of production being<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/29\/sports\/dexter-lawrence-fires-back-at-delusional-giants-legend-carl-banks\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> called out by Giants great Carl Banks <\/a>and ended Sunday with another non-impact performance<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/02\/sports\/giants-drift-further-away-from-relevance-with-ugly-loss-to-49ers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> in a 34-24 loss to the 49ers. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Giants are off to a 2-7 start for the third straight season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWinning is everything,\u201d Lawrence said. \u201cRight now, we\u2019re sitting at 2-7. We have to come back next week and win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, but Lawrence hasn\u2019t changed his tune about wanting to be in the Giants Ring of Honor. Especially after his teammates and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/31\/sports\/giants-coach-disagrees-with-carl-banks-dexter-lawrence-opinion\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">coaches rallied around him last week<\/a> with tales of the attention he faces in the trenches and stats of how he is the most double-teamed player in the league to combat Banks\u2019 criticism that opponents don\u2019t \u201crespect\u201d him anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Does the three-time Pro Bowler have any desire to play anywhere else?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t,\u201d Lawrence said. \u201cJust keep leading. Charles Wenzelberg\/New York Post<\/p>\n<p>Kayvon Thibodeaux, who is under contract on the fifth-year option, also stated a desire to remain with the Giants past the trade deadline.<\/p>\n<p>Lawrence is signed through 2027 on a contract with a $21.8 million average annual paycheck that felt like a bargain before the season started. The Giants added $3 million in incentives before the season, but he is stuck on a half-sack for the season after being held Sunday to one tackle (for loss).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t make the plays that came to us,\u201d Lawrence said, \u201cand it showed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Giants allowed 380 yards, including 159 on the ground, but one play summed up the game better than any other: Backup running back Brian Robinson Jr. ran through a tackle attempt by Deonte Banks for an 18-yard, third-quarter touchdown on an eighth straight running play.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37557042\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/10-pressured-new-york-giants-114675614.jpg\" alt=\"San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (10) throws a pass while pressured by New York Giants defensive tackles Roy Robertson-Harris (95) and Dexter Lawrence II (97).\" class=\"wp-image-37557042\"  \/> IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect<\/p>\n<p>Cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse \u2014 who was claimed off waivers Monday and took over for starter Korie Black in the injury-plagued secondary during the second half \u2014 essentially escorted Robinson into the end zone for the final 3 yards. Behind the play, Lawrence was jogging as Banks wound up on his back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think there was any lack of effort,\u201d Lawrence said. \u201cEverybody played hard. Just didn\u2019t make the plays.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All Giants who spoke to the media after the game \u2014 Banks and Brian Burns, who had a strip-sack did not \u2014 agreed with Lawrence that execution was a bigger problem than effort.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I was getting a lot of knock-back, a lot of push, seeing a lot of doubles,\u201d Lawrence said. \u201cSame stuff [as usual]. I think I\u2019m playing well, but I have to make more plays.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Giants have the NFL\u2019s worst rushing defense, which has been a three-year problem. And it was doubly noticeable when the Giants were missing 60 percent of their starting secondary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone as an individual has to look at himself,\u201d Lawrence said, \u201cand see if they are executing, if they are in the right spot, if they are doing the right thing, if they are studying longer, if they are making the plays that come to them.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Dexter Lawrence isn\u2019t going to run from the Giants.
