Brooklyn sits well under .500 and out of the running for the playoff spot given to the first-half champs, the same spot that put them into the playoffs last season.

The current roster is not the same as last year’s. While the 2025 Cyclones had the likes of Carson Benge and A.J. Ewing, who are already big leaguers, that star power is not replicated in 2025. Just three of the organization’s top 30 prospects on Baseball America started the season with the Cyclones, and only two remain.

The best is Mitch Voit, the Mets’ first-round pick in the 2025 MLB draft and Baseball America’s No. 8-ranked organizational prospect. It’s been a mixed bag for Voit so far. Mostly, he’s struggled. Voit has spent much of his season hitting in the low .200s with his OPS in the mid .600s, but recently, the tide is starting to turn.

Brooklyn’s Mitch Voit has homered three times in his last 11 games through Wednesday after homering four times in his first 34. In the process. Photo by Matt Kipp / Brooklyn Cyclones

It’s a small sample size, but Voit has homered three times in his last 11 games through Wednesday after homering four times in his first 34. In the process, he’s raised his season OPS over .700. Most impressively, his strikeout rate over that stretch is over 10% lower than it was in his first 34.

The other top 30 prospect currently in Brooklyn is Daiverson Gutierrez, No. 24 on Baseball America. A catcher, Gutierrez’s carrying tool is his defense behind the plate. Offensively, though, it’s been a rough, rough go for the 20-year-old.

In his first 50 games at High-A, Gutierrez is hitting .168/.293/.249/.542 with two homers, six doubles and a triple. He’s only striking out 17.8% of the time — maintaining one of his offensive strengths — but just hasn’t done much damage with the contact he’s making.

“He’s doing a great job framing and calling games,” Cyclones manager Eduardo Núñez said in mid-May. “Offensively, he has struggled at the beginning, but he still has the opportunity of being better. It has been a long process; they’re working a lot. One of the things now, he used to chase a lot down in the zone, so we’re trying to work with his swing decisions.”

The final top-30 prospect to play for the Cyclones so far this year is Antonio Jimenez, the Mets’ third-round pick in 2025. He was the second player the Mets selected in the draft after forfeiting their second-round pick by signing Juan Soto, who had a qualifying offer attached to him.

On May 12, Jimenez was transferred to the development list after hitting .124/.181/.206/.387 over his first 25 games of the season. Núñez said the goal of the move was for Jimenez to work on his swing in an environment where he doesn’t need to think about competing.

Twelve days after placing him on the development list, the Mets assigned him to Single-A St. Lucie. He’s hit a little better in his first 13 games down in Florida (.239/.375/.326/.701), but has still struggled with strikeouts.

Núñez hopes Jimenez will be back with the Cyclones at some point this season.

While those are the only three top-30 prospects with the Cyclones so far, others could be on the way soon. Baseball America No. 7 Elian Peña has hit well in Single-A and could be ticketed for a second-half call-up, and the same can be said for No. 15 Randy Guzman. Pitchers Cam Tilly (No. 20) and Nicolas Carreno (No. 30) should also be in line for promotions at some point.

A little over two months into the season, it hasn’t been easy for the Cyclones.
