Kathy Hochul responded to comments made by White House Border Czar Tom Homan promising a surge in Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in New York City. <\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Earlier this<a data-rich-text-hyperlink=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/bronx.news12.com\/border-czar-you-can-expect-more-ice-agents-to-go-to-new-york\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> week<\/a>, Homan said the planned ICE deployment was a direct response to a new set of laws that Governor Hochul signed banning ice from using local jails.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">\u201cWe don&#8217;t want our jails being used for any purpose other than local law enforcement purposes. It&#8217;s not their job to be ICE detention centers either,\u201d said Hochul.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The new laws don\u2019t stop ICE from taking people into custody after they are convicted and serve state prison time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Gov.
