Residents in Brighton Beach are raising safety concerns about the boardwalk. They say despite posted signs prohibiting motorized e-bikes and scooters, people ride them all the time.<\/p>\n
“They do whatever. And they like speeding here a lot,” said Katya Kulisah, who walks along the boardwalk almost every day with her daughter.<\/p>\n
She said she always has to be on the lookout.<\/p>\n
“I know one of my friends, they were walking with a stroller, and one of the scooters collided with them. So basically the baby was knocked out, but nothing was done,” said Kulisah.<\/p>\n
Others said the e-bikes and scooters are also taking a toll on the boardwalk itself.<\/p>\n
“They break the planks,” said one man who uses the boardwalk twice a day.<\/p>\n
While many neighbors agreed that e-bikes and scooters are an ongoing issue, some said they’re just doing their best not to let it get to them.<\/p>\n
“It doesn’t bother me at all. People are free to use the boardwalk any way that they want,” said one woman.<\/p>\n
News 12 reached out to the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation about the concerns and is waiting for a response. <\/p>\n
