First responders rushed the 2-year-old to Maimonides Hospital in critical condition.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Neighbors sharing their shock with News 12 and immediately thinking of their own children. <\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">&#8220;I&#8217;d be devastated. I can&#8217;t imagine,&#8221; one Midwood neighbor. &#8220;But accidents happen. Parents should be more aware if they need screens or gates.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Police have not confirmed if the 2-year-old was alone at the time of the fall.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">The city&#8217;s health department <a data-rich-text-hyperlink=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/doh\/health\/health-topics\/window-guards.page\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">urges New Yorkers<\/a> to never leave a child alone in a room where there are open windows without window guards.
