Joe Addabbo thanks Vincent \u201cVinny\u201d Arcuri Jr. for his public service<\/p>\n<p>Photo by Patrick Stachniak<\/p>\n<p>Vincent \u201cVinny\u201d Arcuri Jr., who has served on Queens Community Board 5 for almost 50 years, received an award from State Sen. Joe Addabbo for \u201coutstanding leadership\u201d and his many years of service to the community. The certificate presented by Addabbo contains a long list of all of Arcuri\u2019s accomplishments during his decades of public service.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>First appointed in 1975, Arcuri led the board as chairperson for two terms lasting 33 years, before being voted out earlier this year.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe sincerely cares about the greater good, and never showed any self-interest as chairperson,\u201d District Manager Gary Giordano said. \u201cAfter he retired from work, he would come into our office and just say \u2018What do you need help with?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arcuri was born in Brooklyn before moving to Glendale with his family at the age of 5, where he has lived ever since. The New York native made his living in the construction industry, climbing the corporate ladder and becoming an executive with large contractors such as Turner, Trishman, and AMEC. After the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, Arcuri played\u00a0 a leadership role aiding the rescue and clean-up efforts at Ground Zero.<\/p>\n<p>A family man, Arcuri had four children with his wife Lois, who passed away in 2012. Arcuri\u2019s son, Vincent Jame Arcuri, spent much of his childhood on the construction site with his father and siblings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll four of them would come, ride the elevator all the way to the top,\u201d Arcuri said. \u201cThey didn\u2019t walk the beams with me though.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>At the \u201ctopping-out\u201d ceremony unveiling the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lipstick_Building\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Lipstick Building<\/a>, located at 885 Third Ave. and 53rd at Third in Manhattan, Arcuri brought his son up, then 15, to sign one of the steel beams alongside him and the other crew members, a long-time tradition amongst construction workers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-586795\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Lipstick_Building.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"563\"  \/>The Lipstick Building, designed by John Burgee and Philip Johnson, was completed in 1986. Courtesy of BLDUP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI turned my face toward him with an expression of doubt, but his enthusiasm instantly reassured me,\u201d wrote Vincent James Arcuri in a personal essay published in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enr.com\/articles\/8232-hidden-above-manhattan-a-gay-son-rsquo-s-link-to-his-dad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Engineering News Record<\/a>. \u201cHigh in the Manhattan skyline\u2014the same skyline my father shaped\u2014he and I share a small piece of territory on that steel beam.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among his other achievements, Arcuri founded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.104cop.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">104th Precinct Civilian Observation Patrol (G-COP)<\/a> and volunteered with the <a href=\"https:\/\/store.kiwanis.org\/shop\/category\/kiwanis-recognition-legion-of-honor-210\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Kiwanis Club of Glendale<\/a>, where he received the Legion of Honor commendation for his 35 years working with the nonprofit. At the age of 85, Arcuri remains active on several other advisory boards \u2014 he is vice chairperson of the Board of Trustees at <a href=\"https:\/\/whmcny.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Wyckoff Heights Medical Center<\/a>, and vice chairperson of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/QnsConservativeParty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Queens County Conservative Party<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A man of few words, when asked why he spent so much of his life serving his community, Arcuri kept his answer short: \u201cSomeone had to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"State Sen.
