Hope Man"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#13;<br \/>\nBy S\u00cdLE MOLONEY<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.norwoodnews.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/5676907571_2aeea615bb_k.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-55285 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/5676907571_2aeea615bb_k-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\"  \/><\/a>FDNY EMS 469 <br \/>Photo courtesy of NYPD pbbs<\/p>\n<p>A 69-year-old man has been arrested following a fatal hit \u2018n run in the Wakefield section of The Bronx in April in which a 29-year-old man died.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Police said that on Thursday, April 9, at around 9.12 p.m., police responded to a vehicle collision at the vicinity of Boston Road and East 211th Street. \u201cFurther investigation by the NYPD Highway District\u2019s Collision Investigation Squad determined that a Kawasaki motorcycle, operated by a 29-year-old male, was traveling southbound on Boston Road when a Toyota Sienna, operated by a 69-year-old male, was traveling northbound on Boston Road and made a left turn onto East 211 Street,\u201d a police spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Toyota Sienna collided with the motorcycle, continued westbound on East 211 Street, and did not remain on scene,\u201d the spokesperson added. \u201cEMS responded and transported the 29-year-old male to NYC Health and Hospitals\/Jacobi in critical condition, where he was later pronounced deceased.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Screenshot-2026-06-16-110529.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-133378 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Screenshot-2026-06-16-110529.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"581\" height=\"688\"  \/><\/a>MAJOR CRIME STATISTICS for the 52nd Precinct for the 28-day period ending June , 2026, compared to the same timeframe last year (left), and year-to-date major crime statistics for the 52nd Precinct as of June , 2026, compared to last year (right). This precinct covers some or all of Woodlawn, Wakefield, Williamsbridge, Baychester, Edenwald, Olinville, Fishbay, and Woodlawn Cemetery.<br \/>Source: NYPD\/Compstat<\/p>\n<p>Police said the deceased has been identified as\u00a0Ronald Vasquez Herrera, 29, of the Mount Hope section of The Bronx. \u201cPursuant to an ongoing investigation, they said Hubert Shantilou, 69, from the Wakefield section of The Bronx, was arrested on Friday, June 12, at 11.20 a.m. in the confines of the 47th Precinct which covers Wakefield.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They said Shantilou was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, having no license, and making an improper left turn. He is presumded innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With collision investigations, the NYPD handles all criminal aspects of the investigation, while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the locations of such crashes.
