Mayor Zohran Mamdani said that more New York City World Cup jerseys will be released after the first drop sold out last Friday, drawing early-morning lines and extortionate resale prices.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

Speaking Monday, Mamdani noted that some New Yorkers lined up as early as 1 a.m. outside the official\u00a0City Store<\/a>\u00a0in lower Manhattan for the release\u00a0announced the day prior<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The merchandise was offered as a more affordable alternative to the\u00a0official FIFA World Cup<\/a> NY-NJ jersey<\/a>, which retails for $375.<\/p>\n

The $50 city jerseys, which come in three styles, are handmade in Bedford-Stuyvesant by the family-owned business Mazzi Sports and designed by illustrator Arsh Raziuddin.\u00a0

The line for the store at One Centre St. snaked around the nearby courthouses down Worth Street and stretched back as far as the overpass on Park Row as the store opened at 9 a.m. on June 12.<\/p>\n

Jacob Farner, Kevin Assistoris, and Rohan Chala were among the lucky few to snag a jersey on Friday morning \u2014 they only had to arrive at 5:30 a.m. with camping chairs to do so.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

The friends, who wore their\u00a0 jerseys out of the store, said they knew they had to get their early after seeing the initial reaction to the designs online, and passed the time with a deck of cards.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it was well worth it,\u201d Farner said of the early start to his day. \u201cThe jerseys look great.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\u201cWe knew it was going to be hard to get, so we got here as early as we could,\u201d added Chala.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

Addressing the demand on Monday, Mamdani said the city wanted the jersey rollout to celebrate the Bed-Stuy-based small business and is working on details for another release.\u00a0

\u201cWe will be releasing more jerseys,\u201d Mamdani confirmed. He did not say when the next drop would happen or how many jerseys would be available, saying those details would be shared soon.<\/p>\n

Mamdani also warned against paying inflated resale prices. After the jerseys sold out on Friday, resellers have been advertising the jerseys for over $1,000.\u00a0On eBay<\/a>\u00a0Monday, prices for one jersey ranged from $475 to $1,200.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you are a reseller and you are looking to sell these jerseys online, just know there are more jerseys coming out,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you\u2019re New Yorkers interested in this, know that you don\u2019t have to pay $1,000 on eBay.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
