Brooklyn Beckham has made light of his fractured ties with his dad<\/a> in a new World Cup advert promoting the food delivery app DoorDash.<\/p>\n

In a short teaser clip released Monday, Brooklyn \u2014 son of British footballing icon David Beckham<\/a> \u2014 is captured watching a match from the comfort of his home, telling the camera: \u201cYou\u2019re probably wondering why I\u2019m watching the Fifa World Cup 2026 from home\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Brooklyn then laughed to himself before saying, \u201cIt\u2019s a long story.\u201d <\/p>\n

The 27-year-old, dressed in a blue sweater and denim jeans, then slapped a handful of World Cup tickets on his coffee table, next to a DoorDash-branded bag, and sat down. \u201cIt\u2019s complicated. More soon,\u201d read the closing text.<\/p>\n

Brooklyn appeared to be alluding to the breakdown of his relationship with his parents, David and Victoria, the former Spice Girls singer. In January, Brooklyn made headlines when he released a bombshell statement<\/a> on Instagram, accusing David and Victoria of \u201ctrying endlessly\u201d to \u201cruin\u201d his relationship with his wife, the actor and heiress Nicola Peltz Beckham.<\/p>\n

David and the Beckham family are VIP guests at this year\u2019s World Cup in the U.S. Last week, David was joined by Victoria and their children, apart from Brooklyn, to unveil his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame<\/a>. David was at the Los Angeles Stadium to watch the 4-1 opening game between the United States and Paraguay last week.<\/p>\n

The footballer previously earned 115 caps during international appearances for England, which includes 13 World Cup Finals appearances. He spent six seasons with LA Galaxy from 2007 and is the co-owner of Inter Miami.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the advert, Brooklyn appeared to be leaning into the public discourse about him. The advert\u2019s set featured a burnt oven pizza sitting on a baking tray and a film camera, in a not-so-subtle reference to his pursuits as a chef and professional photographer, which have seen him endlessly mocked online in recent years<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The advert was met with mixed reactions from viewers.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re at home because you divorced your entire family?\u201d said one person, as another said: \u201cWhen you have to keep having digs at your family to stay relevant.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNope, no one’s wondering,\u201d joked another.<\/p>\n

Others were more supportive. \u201cKeep doing you Brooklyn,\u201d said one fan. \u201cI\u2019ve got to say he looks happy enough and that\u2019s all that matters,\u201d added another.<\/p>\n

Brooklyn claimed in his bombshell post shared in January that his parents have \u201ccontrolled narratives in the press about our family\u201d and said that \u201cperformative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to state that he does not \u201cwant to reconcile with my family\u201d and said that he was \u201cstanding up for myself for the first time in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Beckhams have yet to comment directly on Brooklyn\u2019s remarks made in January, and David continued to avoid questions about the relationship rupture when he was interviewed before receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n

When Variety <\/a>asked him about the \u201cvicious\u201d media coverage of \u201cstrife\u201d in the Beckham family, the former England captain said the subject was \u201cthe one thing that I don\u2019t want to talk about.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be honest, I\u2019m sorry to stop you there, but that\u2019s a private matter,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In the interview, David made a point to hail his \u201cfour incredible kids,\u201d referring to Brooklyn, Romeo, 23, Cruz, 21 and Harper, 14, and said that \u201cfamily always comes first.\u201d<\/p>\n
