NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) \u2014 On Friday, there will be some noticeable changes around New York City in observance of Juneteenth, a federal holiday that commemorates the day that enslaved Black people learned that they were free.<\/p>\n
From closings to changes in garbage collection, here are things to know about Juneteenth.<\/p>\n
Discover more local reporting on our homepage <\/a><\/p>\n Garbage and recycling collection<\/p>\n There will be no trash, curbside composting, or recycling collection. Residents who normally receive Friday collection may leave materials at the curb on Friday evening for collection starting on Saturday.<\/p>\n NYC Public Schools closed<\/p>\n New York City Public Schools students will be able to enjoy one final three-day weekend before summer break officially begins. There won\u2019t be any New York State Regents examinations held.<\/p>\n Alternate Side Parking rules<\/p>\n Alternate Side Parking rules will be suspended on Friday.
