In another video at a gay bar<\/a>, Mamdani spoke to an enthusiastic crowd that shouted affirmatively in response to him: \u201cAre we ready to beat Andrew Cuomo? Are we ready to win a city we can afford? Are we ready to make history?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cLet\u2019s go out and do it. Thank you, my friends,\u201d Mamdani continued.<\/p>\n Throughout his campaign, the democratic socialist has made a visible effort to meet voters where they are at. On Friday, Mamdani participated in salsa and tai chi with senior citizens at a cultural center in the city.<\/p>\n Spencer Platt via Getty Images<\/p>\n Moreover, Mamdani, who was born in Uganda and has Indian heritage, has also appealed to voters in different languages, making campaign videos<\/a> in Spanish and in Arabic. <\/p>\n On MSNBC Sunday<\/a>, the morning after Mamdani\u2019s club crawl, journalist Ali Velshi asked about those campaign videos.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat\u2019s the point? What\u2019s the point to New Yorkers? You\u2019re not hiding who you are or the fact that you \u2015 you love the diversity of this city and this country?\u201d Velshi asked.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, I think the point is understanding what makes New York City such a special place. This is a city of the world,\u201d Mamdani responded.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd for so long, when people have run for office, they have gone to political consultants and asked them which voters they should focus on. And we wanted to reject that assessment, that there was a set of New Yorkers you could leave out on the basis of their voting propensity or on the basis of the languages that they speak. And we wanted to make sure that we brought our political case to each and every person that called this city home,\u201d Mamdani told Velshi.<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cAnd what we\u2019re finding is that when you treat New Yorkers, no matter how often they voted or whether they voted at all, with the respect and dignity that they deserve, they will respond in kind, whether that is speaking about young people, whether that\u2019s speaking about immigrant voters, whomever, you know, the Andrew Cuomos of the world like to overlook, those are the very New Yorkers who can also be at the heart of our democratic process.\u201d<\/p>\n Mamdani continued to make last-minute efforts to talk to voters on Sunday, the last day for early voting in New York. He showed up at the New York City marathon, which he ran a year ago, and at a bar in Astoria, Queens, with Gov.
