As Seth Avett <a href=\"https:\/\/relix.com\/articles\/detail\/the-avett-brothers-on-releasing-a-stirring-spontaneous-record-with-mike-patton-and-reveling-in-the-retrovertigo-experience\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recently told Relix<\/a>, \u201cThe whole thing was just so fluid, which really helped it. But the way I view the authorship of these songs is that each of them sort of represents the whole thing. It was so intensely spiritual and ethereal that any one of them seems like a sensible mascot. I don\u2019t remember a watershed moment where I felt, \u2018This is what this is.\u2019 We\u2019re still kind of figuring out what this is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The collaborative project is now out on the road, performing songs from the record, along with Avetts material, songs from Patton\u2019s repertoire such as Faith No More\u2019s \u201cDigging the Grave\u201d as well as Mr. Bungle\u2019s \u201cRetrovertigo\u201d and \u201cMerry Go Bye,\u201d along with choice covers. Scott Avett says of the new material, \u201cWe\u2019re seeing songs like \u2018To Be Known\u2019 and \u2018Too Awesome\u2019 come across in ways that we didn\u2019t anticipate. When we first played them live we realized that these songs have a dynamic and an ability to magnify or exaggerate themselves. There\u2019s a fluidity and a flexibility about them in a way that they grow in magnitude, which is exciting. It\u2019s the stuff we live for.
