Dominic Col\u00f3n’s The War I Know\u00a0will receive two free public readings\u00a0at Pregones\/PRTT in the Bronx June 29 and 30. Rudi Goblen is directing.<\/p>\n
The play was the inaugural recipient of the GLAAD-sponsored Write It Out Prize.\u00a0It\u00a0follows a Bronx family navigating the HIV\/AIDS crisis of the 1980s and ’90s through the eyes of Eggie, a\u00a0young gay Latine boy coming to understand both the world around him and his own identity.<\/p>\n
The reading cast will include\u00a0Wilson Cruz<\/a> (My So-Called Life, Star Trek: Discovery), Gregory Diaz IV (In the Heights, Vampires vs. The Bronx), Haskiri Velazquez (Saved by the Bell), Yadira Guevara-Prip (A House of Dynamite, Supernatural), Antonio Ortiz “AJAY” (Power Book III: Raising Kanan), and Nyseli Vega<\/a> (Hell’s Kitchen).<\/p>\n “Dominic has written a deeply personal and profoundly moving play about a chapter of Bronx history that continues to resonate today.\u00a0… At a moment when so many are grappling with questions of identity, belonging, The War I Know\u00a0reminds us of the power of storytelling to preserve history and build empathy,”\u00a0said Liam Lonegan, artistic director of Egg & Spoon Theatre Collective, in a statement.<\/p>\n Presented as part of Egg & Spoon’s INCUBATE NYC initiative, the project is being developed in partnership with community organizations focused on LGBTQIA+ advocacy, HIV\/AIDS awareness, and Bronx community engagement.<\/p>\n
