Manhattan Theatre Club<\/a> has named Scott Kaplan the company’s new associate artistic director. Kaplan will work alongside Artistic Director Nicki Hunter<\/a> on season programming and overseeing the Artistic Development office.<\/p>\n

The move is a promotion for Kaplan, who has served on the company’s artistic team since 2010. He becomes associate artistic director after most recently serving as director of play development. Kaplan joined as an intern in 2010, quickly moving into several full-time roles. Among works he helped shepherd to success on MTC stages are Jocelyn Bioh<\/a>‘s\u00a0Jaja\u2019s African Hair Braiding<\/a>, Joshua Harmon<\/a>‘s\u00a0Prayer for the French Republic and\u00a0We Had a World, Martyna Majok<\/a>‘s Pulitzer-winning\u00a0Cost of Living<\/a>, Qui Nguyen’s\u00a0Vietgone and\u00a0Poor Yella Rednecks, and Jonathan Spector<\/a>‘s Tony-winning\u00a0Eureka Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have enjoyed working with Scott for almost as long as I have been at MTC,” says Hunter in a statement. “He has always been an outstanding collaborator, who leads all that he does with intelligence, passion, and a keen eye for drama. He has built wonderful relationships with a myriad of writers and been an invaluable advocate for them all. I highly value Scott\u2019s counsel and am thrilled that we have been able to ascend the ranks of MTC in tandem. I look forward to many more years of discovering talent and shepherding great theatre together.\u201d<\/p>\n
