For under a million dollars, one can find all sorts of housing configurations: park- and subway-adjacent studios, one-bedrooms hidden in carriage houses or former shoe factories, and even the occasional true two-bedroom. We\u2019re combing the market for particularly spacious, nicely renovated, or otherwise worth-a-look apartments at various six-digit price points.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A one-bedroom floor-through in a converted townhouse on leafy West 78th Street. The proportions here are enviable \u2014\u00a0you could easily fit a sectional and a small dining setup in the living room. The kitchen is a galley, but it\u2019s windowed and comes with nice-looking stainless-steel appliances and quartz countertops. The bedroom appears to be king size and even has a designated dressing area. (Fancy!) A windowed en-suite bath got the subway-tile treatment. Other pleasures are the fireplaces in the bedroom and living room (one wood burning, one decorative), original crown moldings, and the in-unit washer-dryer combo tucked away in a closet. The maintenance is steep \u2014\u00a0$3,375 a month \u2014\u00a0and as is so often the case in these townhouse co-ops, there isn\u2019t an amenity to speak of. You are, however, down the street from the Natural History Museum and Central Park.<\/p>\n

A two-bedroom, two-bath that\u2019s all prewar charm. There are dark hardwood floors, oversize casement windows, and high, beamed ceilings throughout. The primary bedroom has dual exposures thanks to its corner position and is also loaded with storage \u2014\u00a0a walk-in closet, plus built-in shelving and dressers. We\u2019ve got another galley kitchen here, although this one feels particularly luxurious with granite countertops and sleek custom cabinetry. The renovated en-suite baths in both bedrooms are a nice touch. The $2,101 monthlies get you a full-time doorman and live-in super, a fitness center and shared laundry, bicycle, storage, and community rooms and \u2014\u00a0wait for it \u2014 a self-serve post office! They also cover your electricity costs. Grab pancakes at Townhouse Diner. Get a job at the United Nations.<\/p>\n

An efficient little one-bedroom co-op on East 19th Street. This one is a third-floor walk-up tucked away in the rear of the building, which means it\u2019s always kind of leg day but you\u2019ll also get some actual peace and quiet. The bedroom won\u2019t fit much beyond a bed and nightstand, but the oak hardwood floors are original, the ceilings nearly ten feet. The living room is a decent size and offers leafy views and all-day light. The kitchen is quite small but nicely renovated (the tile floors are lovely). The monthlies are $1,645, which will afford you \u2026 an intercom system. We\u2019re sort of smelling\u00a0pied-\u00e0-terre. Location is great, too: You\u2019re down the block from Ess-a Bagel for breakfast, Rosemary\u2019s East for happy hour, and a 15-minute walk to Union Square for transit and Whole Foods.<\/p>\n

418 17th St., Apt. 2B<\/a><\/p>\n

A one-bedroom condo with a private balcony. The massive living-dining area has a wall of custom built-ins and a handsome wood-burning fireplace. There\u2019s also the balcony that looks out on a verdant private garden. The bedroom can fit a king and shares the leafy views. The renovated kitchen has a soft green subway backsplash, white Shaker-style cabinets, and Fisher & Paykel appliances. Other bonuses: in-wall A\/Cs and an in-unit washer-dryer. It is a block from the expressway, but fees are low at just $589 a month and it\u2019s a ten-minute walk from Nitehawk, Prospect Park, the Green-Wood Cemetery, and the F, G trains.<\/p>\n
