Ballroom and musical theatre fans are about to get a\u00a0first\u00a0look at the new musical\u00a0XTRAVAGANZA.\u00a0The musical will\u00a0offer a first look via a live public concert in Times Square. The Love Is Imagination Pride Mini Ball will take place June 24 from 5\u20137 PM.<\/p>\n
The show has also\u00a0released its first song, “Love Is Imagination,”\u00a0featuring recording artist and Ballroom commentator Kevin Jz Prodigy. Listen on Soundcloud here.<\/a><\/p>\n “When Ballroom moved downtown, it introduced a new generation of club kids, musicians, fashion creatives, and artists to our culture,” said Angie Xtravaganza, recently\u00a0deemed Mother of the House of Xtravaganza. “That moment helped bring Ballroom into the broader public consciousness, and we’re witnessing a similar cultural shift today as more people around the world discover and celebrate the community, artistry, and history behind it.”<\/p>\n Xtravaganza\u00a0will have its forthcoming world premiere at Baltimore Center Stage<\/a> in Maryland; previews start May 7, 2027, with opening night May 22. The production will run through June 20, 2027.\u00a0<\/p>\n The musical, directed by Stevie Walker-Webb<\/a> (of the forthcoming Broadway musical\u00a0Wanted<\/a>), follows a community of Black and Latine artists who built a community of resilient chosen families through the 1980s and 1990s in the\u00a0New York City Ballroom scene, which\u00a0championed\u00a0the beauty of self-expression while facing the extraordinary marginalization. The work features an original score by Khiyon Hursey inspired by the sounds of \u201880s and \u201890s pop, House, and Ballroom hits.<\/p>\n The title draws inspiration from Ballroom pioneers within the House of Xtravaganza, who helped bring Ballroom culture and vocabulary to the mainstream, serving as featured performers and choreographers in Madonna\u2019s Vogue music video and Blonde Ambition world tour. <\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve always been more than a House, we\u2019re a movement,\u201d said Gerardo Felix\u2014aka G Xtravaganza\u2014current Father of the House of Xtravaganza, in a statement. \u201cAs the new House parents, Angie and I, along with the House, are proud to be hosting the Love Is Imagination Pride Mini Ball in Times Square to honor the legends who built the runway and created a future where our culture, creativity, and community continue to thrive with a new generation.
