He’s coming!\u00a0John-Michael Lyles<\/a> (A Strange Loop<\/a>, The Heart of Rock and Roll) joined the cast of the Tony-winning Best Musical Hadestown<\/a> in the role of Orpheus June 16 at the Walter Kerr Theatre. Get a first look at\u00a0Lyles and the current company in the gallery below.<\/p>\n

Lyles succeeded Joshua Colley<\/a> (Descendants: The Rise of Red, Sex Appeal, Newsies),
\n who played his final performance May 31. Jeffrey Cornelius<\/a> and Brandon Cameron<\/a> performed the role of Orpheus in the interim period.<\/p>\n

The current Broadway cast also\u00a0features Gary Dourdan<\/a> as Hades, J. Harrison
\n Ghee as Hermes, Gaby Moreno<\/a> as Persephone, and Jordan Tyson<\/a> as
\nEurydice. They are joined by Jewelle Blackman<\/a>, Jessie Shelton<\/a>, and Kay
\nTrinidad as the Fates. The chorus of Workers is played by Malcolm
\nArmwood, Sojourner Brown<\/a>, Cornelius, Sydney Parra<\/a>, and Alex Puette<\/a>. The
\ncompany also includes swings Cameron, KC Dela Cruz<\/a>, Max Kumangai, and
\nAlex Lugo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Singer-songwriter Ana\u00efs Mitchell\u2019s folk- and jazz-infused musical
\nlayers the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice with that of Hades and
\nPersephone, intertwining the actions\u2014and consequences\u2014of gods and
\nmortals. Hadestown originally began as a theatrical concert performed by Mitchell.<\/p>\n

The creative team features Tony-winning set designer Rachel Hauck<\/a>,
\nTony-nominated costume designer Michael Krass<\/a>, Tony-winning lighting
\ndesigner Bradley King<\/a>, Tony-winning sound designers Nevin Steinberg<\/a> and
\nJessica Paz<\/a>, choreographer David Neumann<\/a>, and dramaturg Ken Cerniglia<\/a>.
\nMusical supervision and vocal arrangements are by Liam Robinson<\/a>, with
\narrangements and orchestrations by Tony winners Michael Chorney<\/a> and Todd
\n Sickafoose.<\/p>\n

The show, featuring a book and score by Mitchell, won eight 2019 Tony
\n Awards: Best Director of a Musical (Rachel Chavkin<\/a>), Best Featured
\nActor in a Musical (Andr\u00e9 De Shields<\/a>), Best Lighting Design of a Musical
\n (Bradley King), Best Scenic Design of a Musical (Rachel Hauck), Best
\nSound Design of a Musical (Jessica Paz and Nevin Steinberg), Best
\nOrchestrations (Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose<\/a>), Best Original
\nScore (Mitchell), and Best Musical.<\/p>\n

Hadestown\u202fis also\u00a0currently in its third\u202fyear in the West
\nEnd (the musical returned to London six years after its 2018 engagement
\nat the National Theatre). The record-breaking North American tour
\ncompleted its coast-to-coast three-year run in 2024, and productions opened across the globe in Sydney, Melbourne, and Amsterdam last
