NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) \u2014 New York City officials have issued a travel advisory as heavy rain and storms are expected to hit the region.<\/p>\n

The rain is anticipated to intensify in the evening and continue overnight, increasing the risks of localized flooding.<\/p>\n

High winds will accompany the storm front, with isolated gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour possible.<\/p>\n

Officials predict up to two inches of total rainfall; however, some areas could see up to four inches.<\/p>\n

New Yorkers are urged to avoid driving through flooded streets, as even shallow water can stall vehicles. If the storms are severe, stay indoors.<\/p>\n

In preparation for the storms, the City has cleared catch basins and inspected flood-prone neighborhoods.<\/p>\n

The Downed Tree Task Force and the Tow Truck Task Force will be ready to respond and assist with fallen trees or branches and stranded vehicles.<\/p>\n
