The hills are alive with the sound of\u00a0Broadway revivals!<\/p>\n
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic The Sound of Music is returning to the Main Stem.\u00a0A revival of the beloved musical will play the Vivian Beaumont Theater next spring as a part of Lincoln Center Theater<\/a>‘s newly announced 2026\u201327 season\u2014which also includes a Broadway revival of\u00a0A Few Good Men, the Off-Broadway revival of August Wilson<\/a>‘s\u00a0Seven Guitars, and a new play from\u00a0John Proctor Is the Villain\u00a0scribe Kimberly Belflower<\/a>.<\/p>\n Performances of The Sound of Music, the second revival in the musical’s history, will begin\u00a0March 23, 2027, with opening night set for\u00a0April 15, 2027. Directed by Lear deBessonet (Ragtime<\/a>) and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli<\/a> (Schmigadoon!<\/a>), the revival will star Tony nominee Jasmine Amy Rogers<\/a> (BOOP!)\u00a0as Maria, with more creative team members and\u00a0casting to be announced. The show will run for 17 weeks.<\/p>\n In addition to The Sound of Music, LCT will stage\u00a0the first-ever Broadway revival of Aaron Sorkin<\/a>\u2019s A Few Good\u00a0Men\u00a0at the Beaumont in the fall.\u00a0Starring Bradley Whitford<\/a> (The West Wing)\u00a0and Tom Blyth (The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes), the revival of the courtroom drama\u00a0will be directed\u00a0by Tony\u00a0winner Michael Arden<\/a> (The Lost Boys<\/a>, Maybe Happy Ending<\/a>).\u00a0Performances will begin October 8, with opening night set for\u00a0October 29. The show will run 13 weeks.\u00a0Additional casting and creative team members will be announced soon.<\/p>\n At its Off-Broadway space at\u00a0the\u00a0Mitzi E. Newhouse, LCT will stage the\u00a0previously announced summer revival of The Whoopi Monologues<\/a>, directed by Whitney White<\/a> and\u00a0starring Dominique Fishback, Kecia Lewis<\/a>, Danielle Pinnock, Kerry Washington<\/a>,\u00a0and Kara Young<\/a> (July 7\u2013August 30).<\/p>\n LCT will next stage an Off-Broadway revival of\u00a0August Wilson\u2019s Seven\u00a0Guitars, directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson<\/a> (currently in\u00a0Joe Turner’s Come and Gone), who won his first Tony\u00a0for Best Featured Actor in the 1996 Broadway premiere of the same play.\u00a0Set in 1940s Pittsburgh, Wilson\u2019s haunting drama follows blues musician Floyd\u00a0\u201cSchoolboy\u201d Barton, a man determined to win back the woman he loves and build a\u00a0future beyond the limitations of Black life in America. As his friends gather and stories\u00a0about Barton flow, what emerges is a richly layered portrait of masculinity and\u00a0ambition, artistry, community and the collective weight of dreams deferred. The revival will run for\u00a0a strictly limited nine weeks, beginning performances\u00a0November 5, with opening night set for\u00a0November 23.<\/p>\n Next at the Newhouse will be the world premiere of Born in the\u00a0Dirt, reuniting playwright Kimberly Belflower and director Danya\u00a0Taymor in their first collaboration since the hit Broadway play\u00a0John Proctor is the Villain<\/a>. The 10-week run will begin\u00a0April 14, 2027, with opening night set for\u00a0May 6, 2027. It follows a young woman from a tiny Southern town who\u00a0finds herself reluctantly working at the town\u2019s most famous attraction: a whimsical \u201chospital\u201d that produces hand-sewn dolls for collectors all over the world. <\/p>\n The\u00a0Newhouse will also host the\u00a0American premiere of Playing Burton by Mark Jenkins<\/a>, directed by Bartlett Sher<\/a>. The one-man drama about the legendary Welsh-born actor Richard Burton<\/a> will star Welsh-born actor Matthew Rhys. Dates to be announced.<\/p>\n Programming at the Off-Broadway\u00a0LCT3, located at\u00a0the Claire Tow Theater, has also been announced. Curated by Maria Manuela\u00a0Goyanes, LCT3’s 2026\u201327 season\u00a0will include the world premiere of creation\u00a0stories and all the important importants\u00a0by Mfoniso Udofia, directed by Tamilla Woodard<\/a> (beginning September 15);\u00a0Pretend It\u2019s Pretend, a new play\u00a0by Emma Watkins, with direction by Annie Tippe<\/a> (beginning January 28, 2027); and the return of The Comedy\u00a0Series, The Composer Series, and The Reading Series.<\/p>\n Casting for all productions throughout\u00a0the season is by The Telsey Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n This is\u00a0Artistic Director Lear\u00a0DeBessonet’s second season as the head of LCT.
