FORDHAM, The Bronx (WABC) — Two people have been charged after multiple NYPD officers were struck by a stolen vehicle in the Bronx on Sunday.<\/p>\n
18-year-old Jayden Mendoza, who was driving the stolen vehicle, is charged with attempted murder, police said.<\/p>\n
20-year-old passenger Angel Robles was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, police said.<\/p>\n
Officials say the officers were tracking the silver Kia Sportage on East Fordham Road around 6 p.m. Sunday. The car, with New Jersey plates, was reported stolen the day before and officers were alerted by a license plate reader that the stolen car had been detected.<\/p>\n
Unmarked police cars surrounded the car after it pulled over and officers then told the driver and passenger to exit the vehicle.<\/p>\n
The driver, Mendoza, then started to drive back and forth recklessly, hitting a police sergeant who was standing outside the car. Multiple other officers were also struck. They were all taken to area hospitals in stable condition.<\/p>\n
Another officer then jumped on top of the Kia and shot Mendoza in the arm. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.<\/p>\n
Officials said Mendoza was arrested back in February 2026 for shooting a man in the same precinct and was charged with multiple felonies.<\/p>\n
