(PIX11) \u2014 Is the future of fighting hunger powered by artificial intelligence?<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In Brooklyn, a first-of-its-kind food pantry opened recently, offering fresh and culturally sensitive nutritious food with dignity to families in need.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/news\/local-news\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:More Local News;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> More Local News <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Met Council unveiled the state-of-the-art pantry warehouse at 5361 Preston Ct., calling it America\u2019s first AI warehouse and pantry. The warehouse is 22,000 square feet\u2014 or four basketball courts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThis is the first of its kind AI-driven pantry,\u201d CEO of Met Council David Greenfield said. \u201cYes, it\u2019s an AI-backed warehouse. We are using it to make sure the food gets to the right people in the right neighborhoods. Different communities want different foods.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Greenfield said the AI helps with efficiency, used as cutting-edge technology to fight hunger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe can tell you which pantries need more food and less food, which have specific needs,\u201d Greenfield said. \u201cIt\u2019s so successful, Harvard Business School did a study on this work here in NYC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:More: Latest News from Around the Tri-State;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> More: Latest News from Around the Tri-State <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Nearly 2,500 people are being served every month, just from this pantry alone and 225,000 people are being served by this warehouse each year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Families can now order their groceries online using a point system based on household size, eliminating long lines and restoring privacy and choice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This new pantry is also making history as part of the largest kosher and halal food distribution system in the United States.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI\u2019m incredibly proud the Jewish community has stood up and become this non-profit helping people in need and build this facility,\u201d Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Met Council hopes this model will inspire communities across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
