Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Monday publicly backed former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) in his independent bid to be New York City\u2019s mayor in the general election on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
In a post on his social platform X<\/a>, Musk warned his nearly 229 million followers that supporting the city\u2019s Republican mayoral nominee, Curtis Sliwa, will only boost the chances of the race\u2019s frontrunner, Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani.<\/p>\n \u201cRemember to vote tomorrow in New York! Bear in mind that a vote for Curtis is really a vote for Mumdumi or whatever his name is,\u201d Musk said in a post Monday, the day before Election Day.<\/p>\n \u201cVOTE CUOMO!\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Musk\u2019s last-minute support came after President Trump, in a \u201c60 Minutes\u201d interview that aired Sunday, signaled he would support<\/a> Cuomo over Mamdani.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not a fan of Cuomo one way or the other, but if it\u2019s going to be between a bad Democrat and a communist,\u201d Trump said in the interview, referring to Mamdani, \u201cI\u2019m going to pick the bad Democrat all the time, to be honest with you.\u201d<\/p>\n Mamdani seized on the moment, teasing Cuomo in a post that highlighted<\/a> a graphic that read, \u201cTRUMP endorses CUOMO.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cCongratulations, @AndrewCuomo. I know how hard you worked for this,\u201d Mamdani wrote on X.<\/p>\n A Cuomo spokesperson accused Mamdani of \u201clying and gaslighting his way through this election,\u201d in response to Mamdani\u2019s post.<\/p>\n \u201cOnly one candidate has a record of standing up to Trump when he tried to hurt New York and winning and that\u2019s Andrew Cuomo,\u201d spokesperson Rich Azzopardi added in the earlier statement.<\/p>\n Cuomo\u2019s team did not respond to an immediate request for comment Monday.<\/p>\n A large share of New Yorkers have already cast their early ballots<\/a> in the general election race this Tuesday. According to the NYC Board of Elections, more than 735,000 early ballots were cast across all five boroughs.<\/p>\n
