Ex-Mayor Eric Adams\u2019 former top adviser and political power broker, Frank Carone<\/a>, was arrested Wednesday, and several ex-NYPD officials were raided, as part of multiple corruption probes.<\/p>\n

Carone had his home searched by the feds in the early morning operation and was arrested in an alleged bribery scheme, according to police sources.<\/p>\n

Carrone\u2019s brother, Anthony Carrone, was also busted in the raids after Frank \u2014 while serving as Adams\u2019 chief of staff \u2014 allegedly received a bribe connected to a homeless shelter contract with a hotel that he funneled through his brother, according to sources.<\/p>\n

Yan Po Zhu, the owner of a Queens hotel, and Zhu\u2019s employee Crystal Chen were also cuffed in the alleged bribery scheme, law enforcement sources said.<\/p>\n

The exact charges were not immediately known. <\/p>\n

The indictment is expected to be unsealed in Brooklyn federal court Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Separately, the NYPD hit the homes of\u00a0former Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey,<\/a>\u00a0Assistant Chief James McCarthy and the once-top police spokesperson Tarik Sheppard, according to the sources. McCarthy has been placed on modified duty, according to the NYPD.<\/p>\n

Those cases stemmed from the NYPD probe into Maddrey\u2019s alleged misappropriation of funds, and the FBI was called in to assist in the investigation.<\/p>\n

Sources said cops are looking into potential bribery and other official misconduct by former high-ranking police officials, including potential wrongdoing in how promotions and assignments were doled out.<\/p>\n

No arrests were expected to be made Wednesday in connection with the NYPD raids.<\/p>\n

The FBI conducted the raid on Maddrey\u2019s home while the NYPD conducted the searches of the other department officials targeted under the investigation.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t immediately clear how many total arrests were made in the alleged Carrone bribery matter.<\/p>\n

Tarik Sheppard was also investigated by the feds. NYPD<\/p>\n

\u201cThis morning, members of the NYPD\u2019s Internal Affairs Bureau and the FBI executed search warrants as part of a criminal investigation\u00a0being\u00a0pursued by the NYPD, the FBI, and the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Southern District of New York. The investigation is ongoing and concerns conduct by former and current\u00a0members of the NYPD,\u201d said Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I became Police Commissioner, I promised New Yorkers that under my leadership the NYPD would conduct itself with integrity and that there would be a thorough investigation of any claim that members of service failed to meet that standard. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis investigation and our actions this morning are part of the ongoing effort to fulfill that commitment and hold the Department to its highest ideals.\u201d<\/p>\n

Allegations of criminal wrongdoing have long dogged Carone, who served as Adams\u2019 chief of staff for his first year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The first federal case he was tangled in stemmed from accusations surrounding a Brooklyn church and Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello.<\/p>\n

The feds hit the home of former Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey. Paul Martinka<\/p>\n

The feds\u00a0slapped\u00a0Gigantiello and Carone\u00a0<\/a>with subpoenas connected to the church\u2019s finances in 2024.<\/p>\n

Maddrey, meanwhile,\u00a0was forced to resign from the department in late 2024 amid a sexual scandal\u00a0<\/a>in which he was accused of forcing an underling\u00a0to perform intimate favors in exchange for overtime.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McCarthy also previously had his phone seized by the feds, along with a number of other top NYPD officials.<\/p>\n

Adams\u2019 spokesperson, Todd Shapiro, lauded Carone\u2019s career in a statement Wednesday morning and said they were praying for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrank Carone has dedicated decades of his life to public service, the legal profession, and helping countless individuals, businesses, and charitable organizations throughout New York,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

Adams and his staff have been plagued by corruption allegations, with the former mayor himself previously facing an indictment that was dismissed under the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

He had been charged with receiving $120,000 in travel perks in exchange for rushing the approval of the opening of a Turkish Consulate in Manhattan. However, the Department of Justice dropped the case in 2025 \u2014 a move approved by a judge \u2014 barring any further prosecution tied to those allegations.<\/p>\n

Adams\u2019 former aide and confidante, Ingrid Lewis-Martin, was also charged last year for allegedly steering city contracts<\/a> for migrant shelters to property owners who gave her bribes, prosecutors alleged.<\/p>\n

The NYPD, with the assistance of the FBI, is probing Maddrey\u2019s alleged misappropriation of funds. Paul Martinka for NY Post<\/p>\n

She was separately indicted in 2024 for allegedly accepting a $100,000 bribe<\/a> to pay off her son\u2019s Porsche in exchange for helping two businessmen. <\/p>\n

She has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial in both cases.<\/p>\n

Tony Herbert, then-Mayor Adams\u2019 citywide public housing liaison, was cuffed in January <\/a>for two alleged pay-to-play schemes for which he received $16,000 in bribes. <\/p>\n

Herbert was previously canned for calling Charlie Kirk\u2019s shooting \u201ckarma.\u201d He\u2019s pleaded not guilty and his trial is pending.<\/p>\n

And Mohamed Bahi, Adams\u2019 then-chief liaison to the Muslim community, pleaded guilty in a straw donor campaign scheme and was sentenced to three years\u2019 probation<\/a> and one year of house arrest.<\/p>\n

The former city Building Department head, Eric Ulrich, is also facing a trial in September on charges he traded political favors for more than $150,000 in bribes<\/a>.<\/p>\n
