{"id":276856,"date":"2026-06-24T17:34:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T17:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/276856\/"},"modified":"2026-06-24T17:34:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T17:34:09","slug":"nypd-charges-bronx-man-with-attempted-murder-after-stolen-car-confrontation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/276856\/","title":{"rendered":"NYPD charges Bronx man with attempted murder after stolen-car confrontation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-block-key=\"g0zdf\">Police arrested and charged an 18-year-old Bronx man with attempted murder Tuesday in connection with a <a href=\"https:\/\/gothamist.com\/news\/teen-shot-by-police-after-allegedly-ramming-officer-with-stolen-kia-in-the-bronx\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">chaotic confrontation<\/a> with officers over a stolen car that ended with police shooting him, officials said.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"eunj2\">Jayden Mendoza, of Lacombe Avenue in the Bronx, was charged after police said he drove a stolen Kia Sportage into an NYPD sergeant during the encounter on Sunday in Fordham Heights.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"1q4q7\">His attorney information was not immediately available.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"coh8j\">The driver, identified by police as Mendoza, was hit in the arm and remains in stable condition at St. Barnabas Hospital, officials said. His passenger, 20-year-old Angel Robles, was taken into custody at the scene and charged Monday after police said they found a loaded Glock 22 with an extended magazine in the back of the car.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"44jqq\">NYPD officials said Robles was riding in a Kia Sportage that police tracked to Fordham Heights on Sunday afternoon. When officers surrounded the car, which had been reported stolen a day earlier, the driver reversed and then accelerated forward, hitting an NYPD sergeant, police said.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"76q49\">Police said another officer jumped onto a parked car nearby to avoid being struck, then fired into the Kia, striking the 18-year-old driver, police said.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"aimpg\">Robles was charged with criminal possession of a loaded firearm. He was awaiting his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court on Tuesday morning.
